GOLD SPOTTED OAK BORER (GSOB)
Education Session and Trap Installation
BLM’s Dulzura Sycamore Canyon (Meet at Rancho Jamul to Carpool)
The Gold-spotted oak borer is a non-native pest that is causing great destruction to San Diego County’s native oaks [including Deerhorn Valley]. Come learn about the GSOB and help install a trap that will join the network of those already in place to detect the borer’s presence throughout the county. BLM Biologist Joyce Schlachter will share important information about the borer, oaks, and how you can help.
Meet at Rancho Jamul Ecological Reserve, 14715 Campo Road (Highway 94), Jamul, CA, 91936. Tools, gloves, water and snacks will be provided. Please wear long pants, at hat, sturdy shoes, sun protection, and bring a water bottle. We will carpool from Rancho Jamul to the project location about 10 minutes away by car.
To RSVP, and for directions or more information, visit http://www.earthdiscovery.org/index.php/sign-up-for-an-event, or contact Cathy Chadwick, email@example.com or call 619-447-4715.
RANCH & GARDEN TOUR PARTICIPANTS: Marge Connors left her turquoise hat with flowered underside on the Tour. Any chance anybody found it?
HOT & DRY — TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS: Still have clearing to finish? (we do). Make sure to keep a water hose nearby. Two of the recent fires near us were started during clearing operations.
The 1200-acre fire near Julian’s Banner Grad was started by gunfire. The U-T has reported, “…the shooters(s) could be on the hook for four injuries, 750 firefighters, 15 engines, etc.” Here’s a link: http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/may/31/tp-a-look-for-causes-of-wildfires-turns-up-a/
