STANDS WITH
JAMULIANS AGAINST THE CASINO

SUMMER “FUN-RAISER”
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15
3:00 – 7:00 PM
THOUSAND TRAILS – PIO PICO CAMPGROUND
Otay Lakes Road
This will be a fun, family-oriented event with music, catered food, and more.
However, a much more important purpose is to help raise funds to oppose the Casino planned for Highway 94 between Melody Rd and Rancho Jamul Ecological Preserve.
The JIV (Jamul Indian Village) told Congressman Hunter they can build what they want on their own property. But it looks likely their land parcel is not eligible for gambling. The land was deeded in 1979 to several individuals, not a tribe, which did not even exist at that time.
The JAC is challenging this in court, and has a VERY STRONG case.  BUT if a Casino is built before the court says “NO,” it will not matter.
HERE ARE SOME IMPACTS ON DEERHORN VALLEY:
Normal travel times on SR-94 from Rancho San Diego will slow by 30 minutes or more.
Traffic flows will shift to Jamul Drive, Lyons Valley Rd, Skyline Truck Trail, Honey Springs Rd, and Otay Lakes Rd.
More crashes, fender benders and disabled autos, buses, and trucks, will shut down SR-94 more frequently. The Lyons Fire, Potrero Fire, and Dulzura fires closed routes yesterday and today. The oversized truck-train closed down 94 a few weeks ago. The head-on crash at 94 and Honey Springs backed up traffic on 94 from Honey Springs to the Rancho Jamul Preserve.  WITHOUT A CASINO.
We are perplexed that CalTrans has indicated it might approve an entrance-exit directly onto HWY 94——a narrow, winding, shoulder-less, unlit rural road, next to a blind-curve and hill.
Here is what Casino backers say in public...

  • 200,000 sq-ft CASINO and parking structure, restaurants, etc.
  • 4.5 ACRES OF BUILDINGS
  • 9,000 MORE CARS, BUSES, TRUCKS DAILY.  This does not count the
  • 24-HR ALCOHOL & GAMBLING, 7 DAYS A WEEK
  • ONLY ONE ACCESS ROAD - WILL FEED RIGHT ON TO SR-94
  • 5 ADDITIONAL SIGNALS BETWEEN JAMACHA & MELODY RD
  • NO DISCUSSION OF IMPACTS to DV’s most critical routes
Here’s what one of the Casino backers shared privately with a DV resident after the recent Community Meeting.  They later denied it.
There are FUTURE PLANS to develop the Casino into a FULL-SCALE RESORT-HOTEL, using the adjacent 87-ACRE PARCEL or by building up.  This was information shared in response to an after-meeting concern about drinkers having no option (local hotel, etc)  to driving home drunk.
